Analytics Corporation specializes in analytical laboratory testing. They offer an array of services to customers in the industrial hygiene and environmental markets. Analytics is located in a 36,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility in Hanover. They partner with companies and organizations across the globe, serving more than 1,300 clients in more than 40 countries.
The company sees Hanover County as a favorable business location for a variety of reasons.
The location offers easy access to major markets.
Jeff Spink, the company's CEO, says, “For me, being the sales guy, I’m really accessible to the big areas that we get a lot of work from, like Washington D.C., Baltimore, and up through New Jersey.”
“Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and South Carolina are all within easy driving distance, too.”
President James McCarthy adds that the location is visitor-friendly: “We have a lot of people visit us, including inspectors. You want to make it easy as possible for your inspector to get here and to be comfortable once they arrive. RIC, Richmond International Airport, is 15, 20 minutes away. And there are a lot of nice places for people to stay, a lot of nice hotels around here.”
The workforce is another benefit.
“We recruit heavily out of VCU, James Madison, Old Dominion, and we've been very happy with all of the young folks that we've brought in,” says Spink.
An affordable cost of living helps draw talent to the company.
“I think the other thing that is very helpful for us, is there’s a lot of affordable housing in the Richmond metro area. We hire a lot of kids out of college, and it makes it easier for them to transition into the area. And it's nice that they can live relatively close to work,” McCarthy says.
For the owners of Analytics, there’s no better place to be than Hanover.
“Jeff and I have been working together since 1986. This is as good a place as we’ve ever been, and we’ve been around. I was in the service for nine years and was stationed at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland, in Hawaii at Tripler Army Medical Center, and down at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. No, there's not a better location than Hanover," says McCarthy.
“I ran a laboratory in California for a couple years. I consulted for a number of years in Salt Lake City. I was in Portland, Oregon. Minnesota. And by far, housing, employment, it’s all about as good as you’re going to find, right here,” says Spink.
The relationships the company has forged in the community have been invaluable as well. Through Hanover County Economic Development and the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the company won a grant from the Small Business Administration’s State Trade and Export Promotion (STEP) program.
“Being in Hanover, it’s been a really great experience," says Spink.
