Right-to-Work State

Virginia is a Right-to-Work state, which means that employees have the right to keep a job without being a union member.

According to the Code of Virginia, “It is hereby declared to be the public policy of Virginia that the right of persons to work shall not be denied or abridged on account of membership or nonmembership in any labor union or labor organization” (§40.1-58 Code of Virginia).

Hanover County has very low levels of unionization and union election activity.
