Hanover’s Perspective

A Bigger Splash Coming to Kings Dominion

Kings Dominion's WaterWorks expansion is planned for the 2015 season.Kings Dominion is adding a splash with a major expansion to its 20-acre water park, WaterWorks. The newly expanded water park will open to the public in the spring of 2015. The popular theme park located in Hanover County is now celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

Named Paradise Plunge, the new 65-foot-tall water slide complex will have guests will enter one of three chambers and wait until the floor drops out, sending them in a vertical free fall through loops and S-curves in a translucent flume.

In Aqua Blast, riders will be sent twisting and spiraling through an enclosed chute that features four 360-degree loops across 449 feet of slide before they’re dropped into a pool of water.

Splash Island is designed for younger children with small slides, spray jets and splash pad creatures. The family-focused area will also offer expanded pool-side cabanas for parents to lounge while they watch the children play.
Upgraded bath houses and additional restrooms are also part of the water park expansion plans.

“This major expansion to WaterWorks will allow family members of all generations to experience water park fun together with our new splash zone,” Kings Dominion’s vice-president and general manager Pat Jones said. “We are keeping with our traditions of providing entertainment and fun to all ages. We chose this six-slide complex to give our thrill-seeking guests a completely new water slide experience and Splash Island to provide a relaxing environment for more family fun.”

Kings Dominion will continue to include entry to WaterWorks with its regular park admission.

“The improved look and feel of WaterWorks will add to our guest’s experience. We can’t wait to share that with them.” says Jones.
