Hanover’s Perspective

Do Good by Nominating a Good Doer for the Spirit of Volunteerism Awards

Nominations are due by March 10th for Hanover’s 2014 Spirit of Volunteerism Awards.  These annual awards recognize outstanding volunteer service in Hanover County.  The Commitment to Community Award is a category that recognizes businesses that exemplify strong community values and a sustained commitment to supporting the community.  All nominated businesses will receive a certificate of recognition, will be introduced at the Spirit of Volunteerism Celebration and one business will selected as the overall winner for the 2014 award.

In addition to recognizing the contributions made by local businesses, this award program also honors individuals, families and teams across a wide variety of categories.

Category winners will each receive an engraved plaque and a financial donation of up to $250 made in their honor to the tax-exempt organization designated on the honoree’s nomination form. The County will also nominate the award recipients for the statewide Governor’s Community Service and Volunteerism Awards.  The 2013 Spirit award was local business, Williams Bakery.

The Spirit of Volunteerism Celebration will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 7 p.m. at Hanover High School Auditorium.  The public is encouraged to attend this free event.  All nominees will be honored at the event and award recipients will be announced.  Contact the Department of Community Resources at 804-365-4300 for more information.
