Five Efficiency Tips for Small Businesses

It’s a competitive world. Here are five tips to help your small business reduce costs, maximize resources and stay ahead of the competition.

Save your Work Regularly

Avoid frustration and wasted time by saving your work every 10-15 minutes. This will help you avoid having to do it all again in the event of the computer freezing or sudden power outage. Additionally, enable the auto-save feature so that you don’t forget to save the document, but it is always a good habit to save it yourself manually and not rely on the auto save feature working properly.

Learn Keyboard Shortcuts

Using the mouse can be slow for certain tasks which oftentimes can be done faster by keyboard shortcuts. Learn a couple keyboard shortcuts of your frequently used programs. For example, when you want to paste copied text into a field, some fields do not allow you to right-click-paste using your mouse. Try using the shortcut – Control V (hold down the Ctrl Key and the V Key) to paste your text into the field.

Use a Password Manager

Don’t waste time trying to remember passwords and/or going through the multi-step process of recovering them. Use a password manager that enables you to memorize only one password for all your logins. There are many free password manager downloads out there. For enhanced premium features, many offer moderately priced subscriptions.

Improve your Typing Speed

Considering you spend a lot of time at your keyboard, it’s worthwhile learning how to type faster. There are many free websites, such as keybr.com, available to help you hone your typing skills.

Clean Your Desk at the End of the Day

At the end of each workday, clean your desk. This makes it easier for you to get started the next day.
