Hanover’s Perspective

Five Reasons to Become a Business First Volunteer

Business First Hanover is made possible by a team of dedicated volunteers who understand the importance of a thriving business community to the health of the Hanover County economy. Our trained volunteers, who are business people just like you, conduct visits with local business leaders, allowing Business First to touch hundreds of businesses each year.

Are you interested in becoming a volunteer? Since the program began almost 10 years ago, our volunteers have given many reasons why they love being involved in Business First. Here are five great reasons to join Business First Hanover.

  1. Being a Business First volunteer is fun. We promise you will have fun especially during our quarterly business walks! You’ll enjoy socializing with Hanover County business leaders and our team of volunteers.
  2. The Business First program builds valuable networks. You can build networks with local businesses and leaders, as well as with economic development professionals. These contacts often will help your business or future business development efforts.
  3. The Business First program is a learning experience. You will learn about the characteristics, strengths and weaknesses of Hanover’s economy from the perspective of local businesses. You also will gain insights on how Hanover is likely to develop in the future.
  4. The Business First program helps shape Hanover County’s future. When our volunteers conduct business visits, they are collecting valuable data that helps us attract new businesses to the County. The Business First program is also an excellent tool that can be used for business retention.
  5. The Business First program shows that we care about businesses. Just visiting firms to ask about their concerns demonstrates that your community cares about its local businesses and appreciates their economic contributions to Hanover County.

What are you waiting for? Our first meeting of the program year is on September 22. Contact Chris Ingram, Hanover County’s existing business manager, to join the volunteer roster today.
