Hanover’s Perspective

Hanover Student Event Offers Real World Experience

Where will you find your next carpenter? Hanover Center for Trades and Technology. November 29, 5-7pm

Hanover County Economic Development and Hanover Center for Trades and Technology are partnering with the Hanover Business Council to play matchmaker for area students and employers at an in-depth hiring event.

The “Ready. Set. Hire.” event brings together businesses, students, parents, teachers and key workforce stakeholders to highlight Hanover’s career and technical center. Students will participate in mock interviews with local business people and learn how to prepare for a successful career in their prospective field. Employers interact with students who represent their future workers.

“Students are getting a crash course in professionalism, interviewing skills and networking with potential employers,” said Chris Ingram, existing business manager for Hanover County Economic Development. “This experience outside of the classroom is invaluable when they begin the job search.”

Last year, the event drew more than 40 students and 50 business representatives. The Hanover Center for Trades and Technology programs focus on automotive technology, carpentry, cosmetology, culinary arts, HVAC/R and small engine technology. Hanover businesses typically attend the event to learn out more about students enrolled in the training programs Hanover Center for Trades and Technology. Students have the opportunity to make valuable business contacts, learn new skills and gain knowledge about what employers are seeking. Attendance is free, but registration is required.
