Mechanicsville District representatives with Legacy Business awards

The 2018 Hanover County Business Appreciation event, hosted by the Hanover County Department of Economic Development, was held on May 17th at James River Cellars Winery and was the inaugural recognition of Hanover County Legacy Businesses.  The Hanover Chamber of Commerce joined forces with Economic Development as co-hosts.  Legacy Businesses are entities that have been located in the County for 50 or more consecutive years.  The Mechanicsville District, represented by Supervisor W. Canova Peterson, recognized eight businesses at this year’s event.

Bruce Auto Parts is celebrating 79 years in business. They have been known for excellence as a local used auto parts provider in the same Richmond area location since 1939. They are one of the top auto salvage yards in Virginia and the U.S., selling high quality late model recycled OEM auto parts for domestic and import vehicles. The same detailed attention to customer’s needs that started their success three generations ago, is still the key to making Bruce Auto Parts a top local used auto parts provider today.

Charlie’s Barber Shop, a full service barber shop located in Old Mechanicsville for 87 years, specializes in men’s cuts, shaves, and trims.

Lipscombe Appliance opened its doors to the Greater Richmond area in 1964 and is located in the village of Mechanicsville near the big windmill. A little over three decades later, current owner Greg Koegler purchased the business. What’s remained the same over the past 54 years, and the reason why Lipscombe is one of the few independent appliance dealers left in the area, is the company’s tireless commitment to its customers.

Mechanicsville Drug Store has been serving the local communities since 1957. Their 61 years of success can be attributed to their commitment to providing healthcare services to their patients that are customized to meet their needs.

Williams Bakery, celebrating 55 years in 2018, has been providing quality baked goods to the area since 1963. They believe in making everything from scratch, so all Williams Bakery products are started with raw ingredients. The formulas for each delicious item have been passed down through the Williams family since the original bakery on Church Hill. Nothing says “quality” like the test of time.
