Hanover’s Perspective

Pixel Factory builds state-of-the-art data center in Hanover County

Scott K. Brown, a Hanover County entrepreneur, recently completed construction of a state-of-the-art, 6,000 square-foot building to house Pixel Factory Data Center Inc., a member of the Pixel Factory family of businesses.  The new data center is located near the Hanover Industrial Air Park and will have a combined investment of over several million dollars for both the building and equipment.  “It’s exciting to see Pixel Factory’s growth and expansion in this technology-driven industry.  With lower business costs, low taxes and room for a business to grow, Hanover is ideally suited for entrepreneurs like Scott and the hard-working people at Pixel Factory,” comments Edwin Gaskin, Hanover County’s Economic Development Director.

Pixel Factory Data Center strategically chose its location near the Hanover Industrial Air Park because of the vast network of fiber providers and bandwidth availability.  Pixel Factor Data Center is fed by four diverse fiber optic connections to several national carriers.  The location also provides easy access from I-95 and I-295 for quick and convenient accessibility for customers.

Pixel Factory Data Center currently has one bay of server rack space in operation with another three bays available for expansion.  Current clients range from local large employers to national brands and regional IT companies based in the Richmond area. In the Ashland Herald-Progress, Brown notes, “Our data center is not going to compete against the big facilities.  We are going to fill a need for a market that large players don’t cater to.  We’re a small local data center with personal service on site.”

As a state-of the-art data center, eight-inch concrete steel-reinforced walls protect the data center assets inside from the most severe elements outside during inclement weather.  Access and security to the building is controlled by an electronic access control system and monitored with a state of the art camera system.  In addition, the building’s clean power is provided by N +1 Liebert UPS and cooling system with backup power generation on-site to run 72-hours without refueling.

“Scott is a great example of the IT and entrepreneurial talent that’s located here in Hanover County.  We’re proud of his success and the launching of Pixel Factory Data Center in Hanover County” says Cecil R. “Rhu” Harris, Hanover County Administrator.

Pixel Factory Data Center is hosting an open house May 1st, 2014 for existing clients.  The landing page will be updated in the near future with information on the open house and Pixel Factory Data Center’s services.
