Mission

The Economic Development Authority of Hanover County (Authority) works in conjunction with the Department of Economic Development to help create new jobs, expand the tax base and diversify the economy of Hanover County. The Authority is chartered through Virginia state law to allow cities and counties to create industrial or economic development authorities with wide-ranging powers, not available to local governments, to facilitate economic development opportunities within the community.

To support and promote Hanover County Department of Economic Development efforts and to execute the Hanover County Economic Development Strategic Plan to make Hanover County the most attractive place to establish and grow a business within a vibrant and diverse economic mix.

Purpose

The Industrial Development Authority (now Economic Development Authority of Hanover County, Virginia) was established by ordinance of the Hanover County Board of Supervisors pursuant to the Industrial Development and Revenue Bond Act (Chapter 33, Title 15.1, Code of Virginia of 1950, as amended) so that such authorities may acquire, own, lease and dispose of properties to the end that such authorities may be able to promote industry and develop trade by inducing manufacturing, industrial, governmental and commercial enterprises to locate in or remain in the commonwealth.

The board has the power to acquire, own, lease, and dispose of properties and make loans to the end that such authority may be able to: promote industry; protect and promote the health of its citizens; to assist in the acquisition, construction, equipping, expansion, enlargement and improvement of medical facilities; to assist organizations (other than religious or educational purposes) to provide operations, recreational, activity centers, and other facilities for the use of the citizens; assist facilities for private, accredited and nonprofit institutions of collegiate education; assist localities, the commonwealth and its agencies, and governmental and nonprofit organizations with their facilities; assist museums and historical education, demonstration and interpretation for use to promote tourism and economic development in the commonwealth; stage equine events and activities; and acquisition and development of, ownership of and operation of industrial park and any utilities that are intended primarily to serve the park and to issue bonds for such purposes; provide for housing authorities to develop safe and affordable housing.

The authority shall have any and all powers that have been granted to it by the Acts of Assembly of Virginia, aforesaid, and the powers that may hereafter be granted to it by any enactment of the General Assembly and, also, those powers that may be granted to it by any delegation of authority hereafter granted by the Board of Supervisors of Hanover County, Virginia.

Hanover County Economic Development Authority (EDA) Meetings

Regularly scheduled meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 a.m. at the Hanover County Department of Economic Development.  All meetings are announced by Public Notice three working days prior to the meeting.  Meetings are subject to be rescheduled as necessary.
