To commemorate business appreciation during the 300th anniversary of Hanover County, the Department of Economic Development is recognizing the county’s tourism and hospitality industry featuring historical, cultural, leisure and entertainment entities and businesses.  Hanover’s tourism assets contribute a significant amount to our local economy with visitors spending over $258 million and generating over $5 million in additional tax revenue in 2018.

In Hanover County, a number of working farms are inviting visitors to enjoy hayrides, pick and buy their produce, attend festivals and events, and hold weddings and parties. These agricultural tourism offerings allow visitors to enjoy, be educated, or become actively involved in the activities of the farm or operation – getting a true farm experience!  When planning your next outing or shopping trip to stock up on fresh produce, be sure to consider Hanover’s local farms and farmer’s markets for a unique experience.

Ashland Berry Farm: Since opening in 1978, Ashland Berry Farm has established itself in the Richmond region as a top destination for landscape and gardening needs, as well as a place to create wonderful family memories! The farm’s autumn events include pick your own pumpkins with fun fall family activities, and the Terror on the Farm haunted experience. If you are looking to support local in addition to sprucing up your yard, visit any one of Ashland Berry Farm’s KaBloom Centers located across five locations in the region and their onsite Pond Shop!Hanover Vegetable Farm - Logo & Offerings

Hanover Vegetable Farm, owned by the fourth generation of the Sears family, provides fresh produce, landscaping products, and so much more! Open seven days a week, The Market offers fresh seafood and meats, garden fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh bakery items, Florida juices, farm fresh eggs, and various jams, jellies, pickles, and sauces. Of course, the hot seller when in season is the beloved Hanover tomato and the Sears’ fresh baked Hanover Tomato Pies! In recent years, the Sears family has grown their agribusiness to include various family-friendly events and festivals. In the fall, the farm offers pumpkin picking with hay rides and seasonal activities, a fall festival and the Red Vein Haunted House.

Oakdale is a premier event facility located on 100 acres of farmland adjacent to Hanover Vegetable Farm featuring a unique barn venue surrounded by sweeping views of the countryside. This new facility, opened in 2019, can accommodate all types of events for up to 200 guests.

Lloyd Family Farms, owned by third and fourth generations of the Lloyds, offers the Richmond region a premiere fall experience every year, with a pumpkin patch, pony rides, a 10-acre corn maze and many other family fun activities. In addition, the farm is available to host corporate and charity events, as well as wedding and birthday parties.

Various farmer’s markets in Hanover County help feature the area’s prolific growing heritage by offering fresh produce and specialties from the surrounding region. What’s more, these pop-up markets and permanent stands are not only popular with locals, but with visitors as well.
