Bass Pro Shops in Hanover County to Host 2019 Basspro.com Eastern Open Awards Event

The 2019 Basspro.com Bassmaster Eastern Open, hosted by Richmond Region Tourism and Visit Henrico County, is being held Thursday, July 25 through Saturday, July 27, at Osborne Landing in Henrico, VA. The tournament waters include only those that are open to all public fishing in the James Rivers and all rivers, canals and creeks connecting to the James River. The James River most recently hosted this tournament in 2017, and has served as the venue for 11 previous major events.

With the James River serving as the third of four venues in the 2019 Eastern Opens, this series of tournaments tier up to the Bassmaster Classic and the Bassmaster Elite Series. The participants in this tournament include 198 registered pro-anglers and 200 co-anglers from 28 different states and 4 countries including Japan, Italy, Australia and Canada. The primary difference between the tournament classifications is that pro-anglers are in control of the boat, the location, and the time spent in each location, whereas co-anglers must adapt to the decisions made by the pro-angler. For most tournaments, pro-anglers and co-anglers are randomly matched.

At the culmination of the three day tournament on Saturday, July 27, 2019, the top 12 pro-anglers and top 12 co-anglers will be awarded at the final weigh-in starting at 3:00 p.m. at Bass Pro Shops in Ashland, Virginia. W. Canova Peterson, Chairman of the Hanover County Board of Supervisors, will make welcoming remarks at the ceremony and will be joined by other members of the Board and staff from Economic Development. This event is open to the public.
