Hanover’s Perspective

East Penn Manufacturing Expands Warehouse Facility in Hanover County

East Penn Manufacturing Co., Inc., a privately-held company, operates one of the largest single-site lead-acid battery manufacturing facilities in the world.  East Penn has been making batteries since 1946 under the popular brand, Deka. Today, the company’s batteries range in literally thousands of different sizes made for virtually any application that requires battery power. Aside from lead-acid batteries, other products offered by the company include battery accessories as well as wire and cable products.

East Penn’s Hanover County location carries a full line of the company’s automotive, motive power, and diversified products with a motive power service operation on-site. This 26,000 square foot facility in the Hanover Industrial Air Park services the entire state of Virginia.

In late 2011, East Penn decided to expand this facility to meet the growing demand of local customers. In early March 2012, the company completed a 13,500 square foot addition. This enhanced capabilities for its retail, commercial, and motive power service departments, and will create ten additional jobs in the future. East Penn was pleased with the smooth permit and inspection process of the expansion project that enables the company to better service its customers across the Commonwealth.
