Enjoy Spring in Hanover County

With spring almost here, a visit from everyone’s favorite bunny around the corner and summer not too far away, be sure to mark your calendar with these springtime offerings in Hanover County.

Kings Dominion kicks off their 2020 season on Saturday, March 28 and will be open daily for Spring Break from Saturday, April 4 through Sunday, April 12.  Season passholders will be treated to a preview on Saturday, March 22 from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. After April 12, the park is open on weekends or extended weekends including Fridays until the daily schedule starts in June.

James River Cellars Winery’s April Fool’s Festival is Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5 from noon – 5:00 pm.  Listen to live music, taste wine from five different wineries, dine at the food truck court and shop local vendors.  Check their events page for other fun offerings.

The Hanover Tavern’s Easter Bunny Brunch is Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5 at 9:00 or 11:00 am. Enjoy buffet brunch fare and visit with the Easter Bunny.  The Tavern’s Easter Brunch Buffet is Sunday, April 12 from 10:30 am – 3:00 pm. Call to make a reservation.

The Beaverdam Wine Festival, in its tenth year, is Saturday, April 11 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Enjoy great wine, food and entertainment.

The Shelton House at Rural Plains reopens in May for tours every weekend from 1:00 – 4:00 pm. Be sure to enjoy the Walking Trails at Rural Plains any day from dawn to dusk.

The Hanover Rotary Club’s 38th Annual Shrimp & Suds Feast is Thursday, May 14, 2020 from 4:30 – 8:00 pm at Kings Dominion. Come out and enjoy great food, drinks and music.

Hanover County Parks and Recreation’s Classic Car Cruise-In is Saturday, May 16 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Hanover High School. This is a free event. Enjoy classic cars, music and food truck fare.

Treat your loved one to Hanover Tavern’s Mother’s Day Brunch Buffet on Sunday, May 10 from 10:30 am – 3:00 pm. Call to make a reservation.

Patrick Henry’s Scotchtown has reopened after a busy winter of remodeling and sprucing up inside and out. Plan to visit on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Also, check their events page for special programs and workshops including a Mother’s Day Tea and Tour on Sunday, May 10.  Did you know that Scotchtown is also turning 300 this year along with Hanover County?  Plan to attend Scotchtown’s 300th Anniversary Festival on May 30, 2020 from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Hanover Vegetable Farm’s 5th Annual Strawberry and Wine Festival is Saturday, May 16 from 11:00 am – 6:00 pm and Sunday, May 17 from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm. It’s going to be another great time down on the farm! Come out for wine, cider and mead tastings, live music on two stages, vendors, food trucks, beer garden, of course fresh picked Strawberries and much more! Check the farm’s website for band times, list of wineries, food trucks and additional activities for the whole family.

The Ashland Strawberry Faire is Saturday, June 6 from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm. Enjoy fresh strawberries, vendors galore, food, beverages, pageants, music, entertainment, and activities for the kids. This year, the Ashland Strawberry Faire has been selected as one of the Signature Events for the 300th Anniversary of Hanover County! As part of the celebration, a parade of notable Hanoverians will kick off the Faire.
