Spring Happenings in Hanover County – 2024

With spring in full bloom, a visit from everyone’s favorite bunny around the corner and summer not too far away, be sure to mark your calendar with these springtime offerings in Hanover County.

Kings Dominion is open on weekends throughout the end of April, and will include Fridays during the month of May.  Daily operations begin the week of Memorial Day, and Soak City opens Memorial Day Weekend.   Check the park’s events page for other fun offerings included in admission.

The Garden Club of Virginia’s Historic Garden Week will conduct tours in Ashland-Hanover County on April 20, 2024.  The tour includes admission to sites in Ashland – Old Church.  To view the event brochure, visit vagardenweek.org.  Ticket purchase required.

My Princess Project is celebrating its first big fundraising event on April 21st from 12:30 pm until 3:00 pm at the Oaklawn, in Mechanicsville, Virginia.  Come out for an afternoon of tea, savory delights, sweet treats, silent auction, raffle, and a fabulous hat contest. Monies raised help support the nonprofit so we can provide magical moments for teenagers in our community. For tickets, visit A Oaklawn Garden Tea Party.

Patrick Henry’s Scotchtown offers interior tours Fridays through Sundays starting in March through December each year. A guided 45-minute exterior walking tour of the history and architecture is offered, but please call 804-227-3500 to confirm availability.  Self-guided cell phone tours are always available. Pack a picnic and eat under the covered pavilion.  Also, check Scotchtown’s events page for special programs and workshops.  Scotchtown’s Annual Fiber Festival Sis April 20, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Fees apply.

The Hanover Chamber’s Airpark 5K will be held on Saturday, April 27. The race will start at 9am – with staggered start times for runners, walkers, kids, and strollers. Friends, family, and coworkers can cheer on the racers from our “Fan Zone”.  Registration is required.

The 20th Annual Ashland Train Day is April 27, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  This annual street festival and railfan extravaganza celebrates Ashland’s love for trains!  The family-friendly event features more than 12 trains passing through the Town, a museum, model trains, Touch-A-Truck featuring all types of emergency and construction trucks, a fun-filled Kid Zone, kiddie train rides, scavenger hunt and more!  Admission: FREE

Hanover County Parks and Recreation’s Classic Car Cruise-In is Sunday, April 21, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Hanover High School. This is a free event. Enjoy classic cars, music and food truck fare.  To view other Hanover County Parks and Recreation events, click here: Parks and Recreation Events

History and Hopscoordinated by Hanover County Parks and Recreation, is May 3, 2024 from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Hanover’s Historic Green at the Historic Courthouse.  History and Hops is one of Hanover County’s newest special events and will feature costumed interpreters, demonstrations, unique entertainment, and a variety of other activities! Experience the sights and sounds of the American Revolution as the state kicks off the VA250 campaign and enjoy a wide range of craft beer options on the Historic Courthouse Green.  This event is free and open to all ages. Craft beer selections will be available for purchase. All proceeds will support the Hanover C.R.E.W. Foundation.

Hanover Vegetable Farm is hosting its The Strawberry & Wine Festival on May 11 and 12, 2024 with wine, live music, vendors, food, fun, and of course, strawberries!  Mark your calendar for this festival and these upcoming events.  Fees apply to all events.

Hanover Tavern, in partnership with the Hanover County Historical Society, is hosting Lafayette’s Return to Hanover on May 19, 2024 from 3 – 4:30 p.mSpend an afternoon with the Marquis de Lafayette as he recalls his experiences in America during the Revolution and on his return in 1824.  This event is free.  Click here to reserve a seat.

Join the Richmond Symphony at Randolph Macon College’s Blackwell Auditorium on Sunday, May 19 at 3:00 p.m. for an afternoon of Mozart and Spirituals with Associate Conductor Chia-Hsuan Lin and the Richmond Symphony.  For other events at the college, visit the college’s Arts and Events listing.

The Ashland Strawberry Faire, now in its 42nd year, is Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  The Faire is a free, outdoor, family, and pet-friendly event.  All are welcome to the historic campus of Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia.  Enjoy fresh strawberries, vendors galore, food, beverages, pageants, music, entertainment, and activities for the kids.

The 2024 Down on the Farm Concert Series presented by Hart Nissan with certain proceeds benefitting the Five O’s Tiki Foundation is underway featuring country and rock performances at Hanover Vegetable Farm.

The Montpelier Center for Arts & Education  hosts a variety of events and programs including Music Under the Starts, Celtic Festival, Summer Camps and more!  Be sure to check out the Center’s various art classes

Cross Creek Nursery (the West End Location is located in Ashland) hosts various seminars workshops, and events throughout the year.

The Shelton House at Rural Plains reopens in May for tours every weekend through October 31 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.  Be sure to enjoy the Walking Trails at Rural Plains any day from dawn to dusk.

Meadowgate Alpacas is open for the season for visits that take you up close and personal with their adorable herd. Go to Meadowgate Alpacas to schedule a visit.
