Hanover County continues to distinguish itself as a community where business growth and civic engagement go hand in hand. That synergy was highlighted at the 24th annual Spirit of Volunteerism Awards on April 9, 2026, where local organizations and individuals were recognized for their contributions to community well-being and long-term resilience.
Among this year’s honorees, the Wegmans Virginia Service Center received the Spirit of Partnership Award, a distinction that underscores the vital role corporate partners play in advancing both economic vitality and quality of life in Hanover County.
The Wegmans Virginia Service Center exemplifies a modern model of corporate citizenship by aligning its operational success with sustained community investment. As a major employer and logistics hub, the facility contributes significantly to the region’s economy. Equally important is their commitment to strategic partnerships that strengthen the broader community infrastructure.
Wegmans has cultivated ongoing relationships with key nonprofit and civic organizations, including Hanover & King William Habitat for Humanity, FeedMore, United Way, the Hanover Education Foundation, and the Tim Tebow Foundation. Through these partnerships, the company provides not only financial support, but also volunteer labor, in-kind donations, and logistical expertise.
This integrated approach delivers measurable impact. From helping equip homes for families entering stable housing to supporting food security initiatives across the region, Wegmans’ efforts directly contribute to workforce stability and community health.
The company’s value as a community partner is particularly evident during times of crisis. During the regional water emergency in January 2025, Wegmans mobilized quickly, donating approximately $35,000 in bottled water to support residents and local response efforts. This level of responsiveness highlights the advantage of having engaged corporate partners embedded within the community that can leverage scale, infrastructure, and decision-making agility to address urgent needs.
Hanover County Economic Development congratulates the 2026 Spirit of Volunteerism Award recipients and celebrates the collective impact of their service, along with that of volunteers across the community, who contributed an estimated $10 million in value over the past year. From nonprofit leadership and educational initiatives to faith-based outreach and corporate partnerships, each honoree helps build a stronger, more resilient community.
