Hanover’s Perspective

Wine & Spirits Distributor Finds Hanover to be the Perfect Pairing

Wine and Spirits Distribution Company Selects Hanover County As New Home

Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC), the second largest beverage alcohol distributor of premium wine and spirits in the U.S., will be constructing a new distribution facility in the Town of Ashland located in Hanover County, Virginia.  The 260,000 SF center will be constructed in the Virginia Transportation Park, located near Interstate 95.  The catalyst for this expansion, slated to employ 300, was the need for more space and efficiency to meet the requirements of their growing customer and supplier base.  The company primarily distributes wine and sells nearly three million cases per year to include recognizable brands such as Sutter Home, Woodbridge, Black Box, Little Penguin and Franzia.  The company has been in Virginia since March 1997 and will be relocating from leased space in Henrico County.

The new facility will have a 30,000 SF office that includes a 250-seat auditorium and specialized wine tasting and hospitality rooms.  Additionally, it will include sustainable design features for renewable resources as well as reduced energy consumption for water, power, heating and air conditioning systems.  Critical to their distribution processes will be state-of-the-art conveying and sortation systems.  The RNDC facility will be constructed the site adjacent to the new Vitamin Shoppe distribution center, which has just been completed.

On selecting Hanover for its location, Edwin A. Gaskin, Director of Economic Development explained, “Being at the crossroads of I-95 and I-295 and near I-64 and I-85, as well as access to the Port, are important amenities that drive companies like RNDC to select Hanover and Ashland for their location. Gaskin added, “Within a one day drive, you can access 60% of the nation’s consumers.  It provides an unparalleled transportation network and a ready-to-work skilled labor pool that makes it the ideal location for a growing corporation and we’re pleased that Republic National Distributing Company will be here in Hanover. The location gives the company the strong base to expand their operations and to really leverage all the growth opportunities with their suppliers and retailers.”

RNDC is an organization built on the strong foundations of long-term, well-established family owned companies.  The earliest RNDC predecessor company traces its roots back to a single distributorship that was founded back in 1898 in Pensacola, Florida.  Today, RNDC has grown and established wholly owned operations in Alabama, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. RNDC also operates in Arizona, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Oklahoma, and South Carolina through venture partnerships. In total, RNDC employs more than 7,000 individuals nationwide.

The company’s core value of quality customer service has contributed to their growth and sustainability, and RNDC is committed to their mission to be the national distributor of choice beverage alcohol producers.  Additionally, the company is very philanthropic and generously donates time and resources to many community and civic organizations with a special interest in the arts, public safety, children’s hospitals and youth development.
