Celebrate the Holidays in Hanover
during the 2014 Holiday Season
From small community events to historic holiday traditions, there are plenty of ways to celebrate the holiday season in Hanover. Here is a list of holiday events not to be missed:
Ashland Olde Time Holiday Parade
November 23, 2:30 p.m.
Start your holiday season with some hometown merriment! The parade starts at Thompson Street and South James Street and ends at John Gandy Elementary School. The event is organized by the Ashland Kiwanis Club.
Holiday Illumination
November 28, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Historic Polegreen Church Site (6411 Heatherwood Dr.)
The Historic Polegreen Church Foundation will kick off the holiday season with the grand illumination of the silhouette structure. Carols will be sung and free refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.
Annual Christmas Tree Lighting
November 30, 6 p.m.
Doswell Community Center (16433 N. Washington Hwy.)
The Doswell Ruritan Club is sponsoring the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting at the Doswell Community Center. Children and adults will enjoy visiting with Santa Claus, the Snow Princess and the Hanover Christmas Mother. The evening will include caroling, free hot chocolate, hot cider and cookies.
Santa Claus is Coming to Hanover Fire Stations
December 6–20
Various Fire Stations
Santa Claus is making sure to stop by several local fire stations during his busy December. Enjoy breakfast with Santa at several fire stations throughout Hanover County. Visit www.Hanovercounty.gov for more details regarding times and activities at each location.
Mechanicsville Christmas Parade
December 7, 2 p.m.
Sponsored by the Mechanicsville Rotary Club and the Mechanicsville Ruritan Club, the village parade showcases community talents in the spirit of the season. The 1.8-mile route begins on Signal Hill Road and travels through nearby neighborhoods and ends on Mechanicsville Turnpike. Proceeds benefit the local Christmas Mother campaign.
Historic Christmas Open House
December 6, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Hanover Tavern (13181 Hanover Court House Road, Hanover, Virginia 23069)
The public is invited to the 4th annual Historic Christmas Open House. This free event includes a visit from Santa Claus, community bake sale, holiday crafts for kids and families, holiday magic shows, story time with all the classic Christmas tales, light refreshments and holiday music.
Tavern Live: Patrick Henry High School Madrigal Singers
December 7, 6 p.m.
Hanover Tavern (13181 Hanover Court House Road, Hanover, Virginia 23069)
Take a moment to celebrate both the quietness and unrestrained joy of the holiday season with winter and holiday music performed by The Patrick Henry High School Madrigal Singers under the direction of Carol Ann Dickerson. The event begins with a hors d'oeuvres reception followed by the holiday concert in the Bradley Theater at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25.00. After the concert, the Madrigal Singers will lead the audience in a carol-sing and tree lighting.
Santa’s North Pole
December 13, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Montpelier Center for Art and Education
The Montpelier Center is transformed in to Santa's North Pole. Visit with Santa and enjoy snacks, crafts and activities. No fees apply unless professional photos with Santa are purchased. This event is open to the public.
A Colonial Christmas at Patrick Henry Scotchtown
December 13–14, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Patrick Henry Scotchtown
Join us for two days of merriment as we celebrate a simple 18th-century Christmas holiday at Patrick Henry's Scotchtown. Join us to see the beautiful natural decorations, historically appropriate foods, a boxwood wreath making craft workshop and other holiday surprises!
Candlelight Christmas Tour at Patrick Henry Scotchtown

Come see our house decorated for the holidays! You will enter into the festivities of the season with music, dancing, laughter and good food.
