Hanover’s Perspective

Hanover Conducts First-Ever Business Walk

The Hanover County Economic Development will conduct its first-ever Business Walk in the area of Old Mechanicsville. The event will take place on April 2–3 beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m.

The Business Walk is being organized by Hanover County Economic Development in conjunction with the Business First committee, a group of volunteers comprised of local business leaders and residents. The committee will canvass businesses in Old Mechanicsville between Shady Grove Road and Hanover Green Drive. Volunteers will conduct a brief survey with business owners to gauge current business conditions and provide business support.

“The Business Walk is a boots-on-the-ground effort to learn more about Hanover businesses and the factors critical to their success,” said Chris Ingram, existing business manager for Hanover County Economic Development. “The Business First program quickly connects companies to the resources they need and removes barriers to business growth. Information gained through the program is used to make Hanover County an even better place to do business.”

“A Business Walk is an important tool for strengthening the local economy,” added Edwin Gaskin, director of Hanover County Economic Development. “It initiates an ongoing conversation to help businesses utilize available resources.”

What Businesses Can Expect

If one of our volunteers walks into your establishment, please take a few moments to provide some candid feedback. The questions you’ll be asked are: (1) “How’s Business?” (2) “What do you like about doing business here?” and (3) “What can we do to help you succeed?”

For some businesses, responses to these questions may take no more than 60 seconds; for others, this might be a good time to relay any challenges you’ve had with your business or things you like about the area.

Business Walk Visiting Dates and Hours

Please expect a visitor sometime between 9:00 am and 11:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. on April 2 or April 3. We hope that you have a great conversation that leads to an even greater business relationship. Companies with specific needs will be followed up and provided one-on-one assistance.
