Hanover Highlights: Looking Back on 2015

As we prepare to ring in a new year, we also take time to reflect on our top stories of 2015. Not surprisingly, the most-read stories are those that highlighted the moments that helped us innovate, prosper and grow over the past 12 months.

The World Cycles into Hanover in September

Without a doubt, September 23 was a day for Hanover to shine in the international spotlight. More than 50 of the world’s best cyclists battled it out during the UCI Road World Championships Men’s Elite Time Trials. Thousands of spectators, and many more who were watching internationally, enjoyed the competition as picture-perfect weather framed Hanover’s bucolic landscape.

Brazilian Confectioner to Bring 55 Jobs to Hanover

Mavalério, a Brazil-based manufacturer of confections for the baking industry, is investing $5 million by adding a new production facility and U.S. headquarters in Hanover County. The company has moved into a 38,000-square-foot space at the Northlake Business Park. The investment is expected to create 55 new jobs.

Hanover Schools Receive Full Accreditation

Hanover County Public Schools (HCPS) received full accreditation from the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) for 2015-2016. Among the school systems in the Greater Richmond Partnership, which includes Chesterfield, City of Richmond, Hanover and Henrico, Hanover is the only school system to receive full accreditation for every school in its district.

Target Marketing Earns Best Places to Work

Target Marketing, a full-service promotional marketing and branding company headquartered in Hanover County, was named among the 2015 Best Places to Work in Virginia. The award is granted by Virginia Business, a Virginia online and print publication, and the Best Companies Group, a national workplace survey solutions company.
