Hanover’s Perspective

Hanover Joins Regional Business Walk

Hanover County joined Business First Greater Richmond, the region’s business retention and expansion program, in a regional “Business Walk” outreach event.

“The Business Walk is a boots-on-the-ground effort to learn more about Hanover businesses and the factors critical to their success,” said Chris Ingram, existing business manager for Hanover County Economic Development. “The Business First program quickly connects companies to the resources they need and removes barriers to business growth. Information gained through the program is used to make Hanover County an even better place to do business.”

Hanover’s Business Walk was conducted with the businesses along Bell Creek and Right Flank Roads. Volunteers conducted a brief survey with business owners to gauge current business conditions and provide business support. The City of Richmond and Chesterfield County also conducted Walks in their localities.

“A Business Walk is an important tool for strengthening the local economy,” added Edwin Gaskin, director of Hanover County Economic Development. “It initiates an ongoing conversation to help businesses utilize available resources.”

The Business First Greater Richmond is a group of volunteers comprised of local business leaders and residents. The Business First Hanover group conducts Business Walks quarter in concentrated business areas throughout the County.

“Last year, local Business First volunteers and professionals conducted one-on-one interviews with nearly 350 companies,” said Grace Festa, Business First program manager and Business Development Manager for the Greater Richmond Partnership.
