Hanover’s Perspective

Hanover’s Business Incubator Steps Up

Like many of the companies with roots at the Dominion Resources Innovation Center (DRIC), the business incubator is taking its next step.

DRIC recently moved into the revamped former fire station on Duncan Street in Ashland. The new space features and open coworking space, private offices, basic wet labs and a conference room.

“The space is revamped, but the center hopes to still accelerate small businesses,” said Dominic Constanzo, DRIC’s director, at a recent grand opening celebration. “We would ideally like to see more science, technology, engineering, and math-related companies. However, we welcome all types of businesses.”

Founded in 2009, the goal of the Dominion Resources Innovation Center is to provide start-ups and early-stage companies with mentoring and business support services. Its mission is to help those ventures become financially successful, high-growth companies in Hanover County.

“The Dominion Resources Innovation Center supports great ideas across a wide spectrum of industry sectors,” added Edwin Gaskin, director of Hanover County Economic Development. “Tenants tend to be knowledge-based, technology-oriented companies. However, great opportunities don’t necessarily fit in a neat mold, so we’re always looking for creative business concepts with scalability.”

The original tenants have expanded their businesses making it necessary for them to relocate in their own office spaces. While they have graduated from their startup space at DRIC, each of these companies has remained in Hanover County.

Those interested in coworking or private office space at DRIC, should contact Constanzo.
