For every dollar spent in Hanover County, it is estimated that nearly half—45 cents—is reinvested locally. Shopping local helps our hometown businesses thrive and contributes to the County’s revenues which provide services to the community. In fact, more than 70 percent of local sales tax dollars go to services such as our public school system and public safety programs.

World’s Best Cheesecake
It seems fitting that the “Center of the Universe” is the home to the World’s Best Cheesecake, a state-of-the-art bakery in Ashland that direct ships its delicious cheesecakes worldwide. With the original recipe developed by Sansbury “Cotton” Sweeney in 1957, the bakery makes New York-style cheesecake alongside dozens of other flavors, including Reese’s peanut butter cup, salted caramel and brownie fudge to name a new. Olli Salumeria, located in Mechanicsville, makes artisanal slow-cured meats based on their original 160-year-old family recipes handed down over four generations.
