Two local businesses were recently honored by ChamberRVA for positively impacting Hanover County and exemplifying excellence in workforce development with the 2016 Marc Weiss Hanover Workforce Awards.

The Hanover Sheriff’s Office took the honor in the large-business category. The Sheriff’s Office was recognized for its excellence in crime reduction and safety enhancement.

Hanover Foils, an engineered foil packaging company located in Ashland, received the award in the small-business category. The company received the award for their unique hiring process in which interviewees meet with each employee in the company during the hiring process.

A volunteer committee of the Hanover Business Council, an arm of ChamberRVA, selected the winners from a pool of eight finalists and announced the recipients during a ceremony held at Randolph-Macon College.

The other finalists in the small-business category included Delta Pure Filtration, Jake’s Place and Patrick Buick GMC. The other finalists in the large-business category were Anton-Paar USA Inc., Bear Island Paper Co. and Supply Room Companies.

The 2015 award recipients were Chick-fil-A Ashland in the small-business category and Kings Dominion in the large-business category. Previous recipients have included Center of the Universe Brewing Co. and Green Top Sporting Goods.

Established in 2012, the Marc Weiss Hanover Workforce Awards honor Hanover County-based organizations that have made a significant impact on workforce development through any or all of the following:

  • Applying innovative techniques to achieve a larger, better-trained, stable, safe and happy workforce;
  • Successfully creating jobs and/or incorporating innovative hiring techniques;
  • Creating innovative workplace cultures;
  • Using effective training strategies to optimize their workforce and develop future leaders.

Nominations are accepted from the public in small business (1-99 employees) and large business (100+ employees) categories.
