Spring Happenings in Hanover County

The Virginia Repertory Theater at Hanover Tavern is in its last week of performances of Dear Jack, Dear Louise.  This joyous, heartwarming story is based on the author’s (Ken Ludwig) own parents’ courtship during World War II. When two strangers meet by letter during the war, a love story begins.  Tickets are currently available at various times April 13 through April 16.

The 2022 Hart Nissan Concert Series Benefitting the Five O’s Tiki Foundation is underway featuring country and rock performances!   This season’s series will be limited to 2,000 tickets per show to bring a more intimate experience to the fans, and offers affordable concerts to the Richmond area with tickets ranging from $15 to $25 for General Admission, and Gold Circle tickets priced from $25 to $45.

Green Top Spring Fling, April 23 – April 24 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., is a great parking lot event filled with great vendors and family fun!  Warmer weather brings more outdoor fun!

On April 23 starting at 6:30 p.m., The Montpelier Center for Arts & Education will hold its 2022 Annual Fundraiser event themed as a Tropical Luau featuring traditional Polynesian cuisine, live music, a silent and live auction and more.  A ticket purchased for this event includes buffet dinner, open bar, bidder number and registration, chances to win great prizes, live music, and the opportunity to support the community through the Center’s largest fundraiser of the year. This event enables the Center to support and enrich underserved, rural community through classes, community events, and programs.

The 18th Annual Ashland Train Day is April 30th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  This annual street festival and railfan extravaganza celebrates Ashland’s love for trains!  This family-friendly event features more than 12 trains passing through the Town, model trains, Touch-A-Truck featuring all types of emergency and construction trucks, a fun-filled Kid Zone, kiddie train rides and more!  For the 2022 Train Day Event Map and information about satellite parking and free shuttle service, visit AshlandVirginia.com/atdMAP. Kings Dominion has kicked off its 2022 season with a new roller coaster, Tumbili, in the newly themed and updated Jungle Expedition area.  The park is currently open Fridays – Sundays throughout April and May.  Beginning the weekend of Memorial Day, the park begins its peak summer season with hours everyday and Soak City will open to guests.  Check the park’s events page for other fun offerings included in admission.

The Shelton House at Rural Plains reopens in May for tours every weekend from 1:00 – 4:00 pm. Be sure to enjoy the Walking Trails at Rural Plains any day from dawn to dusk.

Patrick Henry’s Scotchtown offers interior tours Fridays through Sundays. A guided 45-minute exterior walking tour of the history and architecture is offered, but please call 804-227-3500 to confirm availability.  Self-guided cell phone tours are always available. Hanover County Parks and Recreation’s Classic Car Cruise-In is Saturday, May 14 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Hanover High School. This is a free event. Hanover Arts & Activity Center is hosting the 43rd annual Ashland Railroad Run on Saturday, May 14, 2022.  The 5K/Fun Walk starts at 8:00 a.m., Kids one mile Fun Run at 8:15 a.m. and the 10K COTU Challenge at 9:00 a.m.  Registration is required.

Hanover Vegetable Farm is hosting its 5th Annual Strawberry and Wine Festival on May 14 and 15, 2022 with wine, live music, vendors, food, fun and of course strawberries!  The Down on the Farm Wings Fest at Hanover Vegetable Farm is June 18th from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.  It’s Father’s Day weekend so what better way to celebrate than with good times down on the Farm with great live music, cold adult beverages and delicious wings!  Ticket information for this event will be available on May 1, 2022.  Fees apply to all events.

The Beaverdam Wine Festival, is Saturday, June 4 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Enjoy great wine, food and entertainment.  Tickets can be purchased at the gate, or early-bird tickets can be purchased on the website.

The Ashland Strawberry Faire, now in its 40th year, is Saturday, June 11 from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  New in 2022, the Faire is opening with a “Kick-Off” Parade! Young and old alike can join the fun!  Dress up in strawberry-themed outfits, grab your friends, and join the parade to get the Faire started!  Enjoy fresh strawberries, vendors galore, food, beverages, pageants, music, entertainment, and activities for the kids.  Admission:  FREE
