Hanover’s Perspective

Hanover Grows Summer Fun

Theme park thrills, down home festivals, historic park sites and farm fresh produce all combined with the summer sun and great outdoors make Hanover County the perfect place to plan your summer getaway.

Savor Summer Produce

If you’re craving farm fresh food, you don’t need to search far — the Ashland Farmers Market is a producers-only market located behind the Ashland Town Hall. Everything sold at the market is guaranteed to be grown or produced within a 30 mile radius of Ashland. The market is held every Saturday from May to October, with special holiday markets in November and December.

Stop by the market for the freshest goods Hanover has to offer: vegetables, fruit, herbs, plants, fresh-cut flowers, free-range eggs, grass-fed beef, pastured pork and chicken, honey, jams, baked goods, soaps and more!

When it comes to the farmers market, we’re just warming up. Hanover’s largest annual events — The Ashland Strawberry Faire and the Hanover Tomato Festival — celebrate the County’s centuries old agricultural heritage by putting our favorite summer fruits in the spotlight.

Ashland Strawberry Faire

The Ashland Strawberry Faire in historic Ashland is a traditional celebration to promote the community and feature the strawberry harvest. The Faire is on the first Saturday in June, held on the streets adjacent to the Randolph-Macon College campus. The Faire is a free, community and family-oriented event. There are vendors selling arts, crafts, plants and antiques to the many thousands who attend the event.

Hanover Tomato Festival

Fried green tomatoes, tomato sandwiches and tomato pie — you’ll find everything with tomatoes at the Hanover Tomato Festival! More than 30,000 people turn out on the second Saturday in July at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville to celebrate Hanover’s most beloved fruit: the tomato. Live music, the Little Miss Hanover Tomato Pageant, contests, carnival rides and vendors round out Hanover’s largest annual event.

But there’s more to Hanover than just produce, explore a variety events and activities offering fun for everyone!
